bullet casings bulging out at the bottom. is this normal or dangerous?
My dad just bought a stoeger cougar 9mm handgun brand new a few weeks ago. Right from the start he was concerned about the spent cartridge that comes with the gun from the factory because towards the base of the 9mm shell it has a slight bulge all the way around. My dad asked me to shoot it next time i went to the range so i did. I shot about 30 rounds through it and they all fired flawlessly and accurate but they all had the same bulge at the bottom of the casing aprox 1/4 " from the base of the shell. I have never noticed this happening to any of my casings from any of my guns, so is this normal or potentially dangerous ? do i need to have him send it in?
In addition to what everybody else has said (Lot's of good advice!) try this: Remove the barrel from the pistol. Insert a round into the chamber and examine how much of the case remains unsupported.

Here's a series of Glock chamber rebates starting with 9mm. Compare them to your barrel. (9mm, 357 SIG, 40 S&W, 10mm, & 45 ACP)

If it is more than this I'd say that Stoeger is being too generous with their 9mm chamber rebate; and may have a potentially dangerous situation there. 1/4" up from the case head is a lot! (Sounds like one of the old 1st or 2nd generation Glocks.)
