Missing CPU heat sink - can it do with out it?
I recently installed new more Ram into my computer (i think its about 10 years old).
I found this metal think rattling around inside.
I have since found out its the part which removes heat from the CPU. (heatsink I think).
I have tried to replace it but on of the little hooks which is attatched to the circuit board has come off so there is nothing to attatch the 'arms' to.
I think this may have been missing for quite some time.
If I do nothing about it how long could it take to breat the whole computer.
Would it break it?
And could I maybe just avoid complicated processes ie buringing CD's ect to ovoid over heating?
What is involved to re-attatch the little hook?
Thanks
Yes it is defo the clips which are missing but the fan is still working.
I leave my computer on standby all the time.
Should I not even be doing this?
according to my calculations, powering on a computer without a heatsink on the cpu would be hilariously entertaining. get some marshmallows first though.
