How can I tell if my Dell XPS is SLI compatible/Ready?
Hi, I recently bought a used Dell XPS Gen 2 P4 HT 3.4Ghz computer and I was just wondering how I could tell if it was SLI ready or if it can be made into an SLI ready computer..
Thanks,
Mark
Is this a Inspiron XPS Gen 2 notebook computer or a Dimension XPS Gen 2 tower?
The tower is way too old to be SLI compatible - it has one AGP video slot. To use SLI you have to have two PCI-e video slots, a SLI compliant power supply, and a SLI-compatible nVidia chipset on the motherboard. http://www.techterms.com/definition/sli
The only thing you could do is to replace the motherboard and CPU, which with Dell's proprietary (and usually underpowered) power supplies would be a risky operation. At that point, you would be better buying or building a whole new machine.
(Laptops of course can't be SLI because there is no room for a second video card in them)
