Toshiba M400 or Sony Vaio SZ?
Hello there,
I'm planning to buy a laptop in the range of $2000-$2500 . I narrowed my options to the following 2 laptops :
Sony VAIO VGN-SZ240P : core duo 2ghz , 120gb, 2gb, 13.3", 4lbs,DVD±RW DL / Wireless/Bluetooth / WXP Pro,
M400 Tablet PC Core Duo T2500,2.0GHz,1GB,80GB,DVD-RW,12.1 SXGA,802.11g,Fingerprint reader,Win XP Tablet Edition,
Any comments on their performance, reliablity, durability,etc are appreciated.
E.G.
I'll be using it to test software and therefore performance is the utmost important issue for me.
By the way, it is possible to increase the RAM for Toshiba to 2GB, so the question is which brand is more reliable and which config. would perform better? Is it really worth paying a bit more to get a Sony Vaio?
If you're a hard core gamer then definitely go with the Vaio. The extra memory and hard drive space will save you from upgrading a few years from now. Plus the Bluetooth is nice if your phone is bluetooth cabable also. And you can't go wrong with XP Pro (XP home sux).
The Tablet PC sounds like a good pick if your still in high school or just starting college. Although I never understood why someone would take notes on a tablet PC when you can just write it on paper. If it's just words, you can type it faster than writing it (so you don't need the tablet part) and if it's a picture or graph, then plain paper is probably easier to write on.
My pick would be the Vaio, but it's ultimately up to you. Please let us know what you decide. You've got me curious.
EDIT: I just checked my consumer reports subscription online and it looks like the Sony Vaio brand is 2nd place under an Apple Macbook Pro for the "15.4 inch Workhorse" section of Laptop Ratings. It's not your specific one, but a Vaio none-the-less (VGN-FE790). Toshiba isn't even listed in that section.
