Installing an OS on a self built computer?
I plan to build my own computer, I will get help with assembly and ensuring my parts are compatable, but I'm curious on how exactly I'm going to install the OS onto the operating system...
Okay, as I understand it, and I may be wrong...
Let's say I put the computer together... Motherboard... Cpu... fans... DVD/CD drive(s)... harddrive... PSU... etc.
So, let's say, It's all together now, so how do Install the OS, (XP in case it matters) Don't I need a driver installed to access the CD drive to install XP... but I can't install XP until i have the CD-Rom drivers... yet I can't install the drivers until I have XP installed...
Aghhhhhhh!
So what exaclty do I do? Let me know if I'm missing something or if there is a common solution to this problem.
You'll need to go into the BIOS setup to make sure the CD/DVD drive is the first device in the boot order. Then you'll need to restart with the XP CD in the drive and it should auto start. I suspect the hard drive is first boot device (won't work since there is no OS installed).
