I found an IMB Pentium II laptop that someone tossed out, and it turns on but asks me for a password.?
Anyone know how to unlock it? If I call IMB would they be of help? If I can't unlock it would it be any use for parts to someone?
If the password is in the BIOS then it has to be physically reset. On desktops you can jumper a pair of pins to do this, though all the settings will be lost.

If it's the OS then you'll have to reinstall. On that model 95 SR2 will run fine, and 98SE will install, but it needs a lot more RAM.
Every now and then I read about someone who is taking "junk" computers, installing Ubuntu or some other Linux distro and giving the computers away to kids.
You might check around locally or Google.
I have a P120 in a Thinkpad that still fires up. It still does everything it did before. I have a T-30 now, but I wouldn't call the older model useless. Just less convenient.
