can i use the recovery cd or dvd to repair install?
i have a Compaq Presario S6500NX. i want to upgrade the motherboard and processor for it. i know making major changes like that would cause it to not work. i want to get it running without reinstalling windows completely by doing a repair installation. can i use the recovery disk to do a repair install?
I suggest that you try it before you make the changes.
Some manufacturers have decided that you only need to restore your computer to the factory state. Toshiba is one. I *think* that Compaq allows you to do a repair install, but I'm not sure.
Boot from the CD, choose "install Windows" and then see if you can do a R-repair install at this point. In any case, press the key to bail out of the Windows install before it does anything.
Good luck
