Is a Dell XPS notebook a good laptop?
Especially when I might get AutoDesk 3ds Max and V-Ray to put on it?

Well, I don't know anything about either of those programs, but I'm using a Dell XPS M1330 and LOVE IT! It's the most sturdy, flexible, powerful computer I've ever had. And it's lite, fitting easily in my backpack to take to class. The fingerprint scanner works awesome, the camera (besides doing all sorts of cool things) works excellently, the microphone array records voice perfectly, and so on. I absolutely love it and hardly have any complaints.
P.S. XPS stands for Extreme Performance Machine. That pretty much sums it up.
