How can I redirect audio from my computer through the phone and vice versa?

Is there a device that can be plugged into a regular phone (e.g. such as replacing the handset) so that the audio can be redirected into the computer via the audio line-in and can receive audio through the line-out? (Please note I'm not looking for VoIP, but I'm looking for something that can essentially allow the computer to process the audio coming out and the audio going in to the phone).

There use to be software around called Chyanne that would allow you to use a computer with a sound card and 56K modem to make and answer phone calls. I have not seen it for a while but it may still be avaliable
